Montevideo’s first horse racetrack was built in the same area in 1874. In 1909 architect Jacobo Vázquez Varela designed a new box for members which was redesigned in 1920 by architects Fernando Capurro and Emilio Rodie. Later, architect Román Fresnedo Siri designed the Folle Ylla grandstand in 1938 and the Local Tribuna in 1945.
