A green public space with a central lake and an open-air stage. The park also features a castle, a gazebo, an Andalusian-style patio and a wide variety of native and imported plants.

First conceived in 1888, it is the second public park in Montevideo. José María Montero y Paullier, an engineer, was responsible for its picturesque layout in the style of an English landscape, with contributions to the design by landscape artist Charles Racine.
